"Two fingers of the worker were severed..."

In many workplaces that fabricate aluminium profiles the use of jigs or templates is commonplace. But, with that is the danger of hand injuries. Here is a recent incident highlighting the hazard of hand injuries.

Horror in the metal workshop: Two fingers of the worker were severed!

A work accident in a metal joinery workshop in (location omitted) caused two fingers of an employee to be severed. The incident occurred at around 12:00 at his workplace in the rural Seydinler neighborhood.

WORKERS ARE STUCK BETWEEN PROFILES

According to the information obtained, a 49-year-old worker named (omitted). stuck his hand between the metal profiles while he was working. As a result of this unfortunate compression, two of the worker's fingers were severed. The injured worker was urgently taken to (a nearby hospital) by his relatives in a private vehicle.

HEALTH STATUS EVALUATED AT THE HOSPITAL

It was stated that after the first intervention at (local) Hospital, (the injured) was transferred to Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine Hospital because his condition remained serious. An investigation was launched by the gendarmerie command teams regarding the incident.

We pray that the injured worker’s fingers were able to be reattached.

We do know that the worker was taken to the first hospitals “by his relatives in a private vehicle”. We acknowledge that it might sound unusual that an ambulance was not called. We assume that the injured workers were employed alongside him. We looked at a map and saw that the distance between the first and second hospital was over 65 km away.

Here is a link that has several safety publications on hand safety.
